Hibiscus Lemonade

We have a lemon tree in our yard and there is always more lemons and lemon juice than we can use. This hibiscus lemonade recipe was the perfect answer for using our fresh squeezed lemon juice.

This refreshing hibiscus lemonade recipe is sweetened with honey. It is tart, not too sweet. The cinnamon sticks and whole cloves add a great flavor that will surprise and delight your family and friends. You can find dried hibiscus flowers in health food stores or mexican markets.

Hibiscus Lemonade Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup dried hibiscus flower
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 gallon filtered water
  • 8 ounces honey
  • 4 cups lemon juice, squeezed from about 12 to 16 lemons

Directions

  1. Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Turn off heat and stir in honey. Continue stirring until it dissolves.

  2. Add the dried hibiscus, cinnamon sticks and whole cloves to the water. Place a lid on the pan and let it steep at least 4 hours.

  3. Strain tea through a sieve into a large pitcher or jar. Discard hibiscus, cinnamon sticks and cloves.

  4. Add lemon juice and stir. Slowly add the rest of the water, tasting to get right amount of flavor without becoming to diluted.

  5. Chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours. Serve over ice.
